The American Income Life Insurance Company under the bright light of logic

This company netted my résumé from Career Builder where my résumé was posted for employment specifically as a lift truck operator. I have never had contact with them. I have ignored every random email and soliciting phone call from them, and still they would not stop trying to contact me via email and telephone.

Reasons to be suspicious

If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is.

The emails are automatically generated, sent at the same time (8:00am), with grammatical errors.

Emails sent from Brian Traboulay are signed by John Charlton.

My name is not anywhere in the emails.

There is no company address given. There is more than one contact telephone number given. The company's telephone numbers are unlisted numbers.

Brian Traboulay (State Director for American Income), John Charlton (Regional Manager), and the H.R. Department have the same telephone number.

The opportunity does not stay constant. Each email was sent at a one week, or less, interval.

There is no proper job title, nor a suitable job description given.

There is too much focus on what the company can do for me.

Pyramid Schemes Pyramid schemes are frauds that are based on recruiting an ever-increasing number of investors. The initial promoters (those at the peak of the pyramid) recruit investors who are expected to bring in more investors, who may or may not sell products or distributorships. Recruiting newcomers is more important than selling products. No new money is created in pyramid schemes. Investors who get in early take their profits from investors who join later. At some point, no new investors can be found and as a result the last investors, who are at the bottom of the pyramid, lose their money. They also face prosecution, as pyramid schemes are illegal.

Before you invest any money in a multi-level company that could be a pyramid, get all the facts about the company, its officers and its products. Get written copies of the company's marketing plan, sales literature, contracts and prospectus (a legal document that gives prospective investors information about the company). Avoid promoters who fail to clearly explain their plans. Have a lawyer or accountant explain anything you do not understand. Find out if there is a demand for the product, or if there are similar products on the market. Remember that the greater the promised return, the greater the risk.

Pyramid schemes are illegal under the Competition Act, and serious charges may be brought against you if you are operating or affiliated with one of these schemes.

Environmentalism Delusion

Many people know where most paper comes from. Most paper comes from trees. To make paper, trees are cut down. Of course, paper can also be made from other paper. This is called recycling. I don't have a problem with recycling paper in itself, I take issue with those pushing garbage with their recycle paper message.

It is proclaimed by environmental groups and some  companies that all our forests are being cut down, and we must recycle paper to save trees. Recycling paper does save tress, but do we really need recycling to save the trees we have? Here are the facts from Natural Resources Canada:

Canada has 10 percent of the world’s forests.
Canada has 397.3 million hectares (ha) of forest, other wooded land and other land with tree cover, which represent 53.8 percent of its total surface area of 738.5 million ha.1
Canada’s forest, other wooded land and other land with tree cover are made up of 347.7 million ha (87.5 percent) of forest, 41.8 million ha (10.5 percent) of other wooded land and 7.8 million ha (2 percent) of other land with tree cover.
In Canada, the predominant tree species on forest land are spruce (53.2 percent), poplar (11.6 percent) and pine (9.3 percent).
In 2009, Canada harvested 118.3 million cubic metres (m3) of roundwood.
Annually, less that 1 percent of Canada’s forests are harvested; 0.6 million ha were harvested in 2009.The area of forest harvested is slightly larger than Prince Edward Island.
A total of 15.2 million ha were affected by insect defoliation in 2009; 3.2 million ha were lost due to forest fires in 2010.
In 2009, an estimated 386 840 ha were planted with 578 million seedlings, and 15 978 ha were seeded. Revenues from the sale of timber from provincial and territorial crown lands were estimated to be $0.1 billion in 2009.

Do we need recycling to save our forests? The answer is, no. Perhaps the people pushing this environmentalism way of thinking have other motives in mind other than "saving" Canada's forests.

According to the US Book Industry Study, paper product consumes about 70% of the carbon utilized in the book industry. Indigo is working to promote more environmental papers in the book industry with the development of its paper policy and has already launched plans to reduce its own paper consumption by 25% by 2012.
BC Hydro burning trees to make way for northern line
2012-11-20
BC Hydro is burning most of the timber cut to make way for its Northwest Transmission Line, according to the Vancouver Sun. The utility says the quality of the wood and the remoteness of the site mean it is not economical to harvest and sell the wood.
A 340-kilometre-long route is being cleared for the new transmission line, running north from Terrace, B.C. The quantity of wood involved is massive 490,000 m3 or hundreds of thousands of trees. The story in the Sun states that the land is being cleared by six regional First Nations and their contractors.
The loggers have been unable to find markets for most of the timber. Bruce Barrett of BC Hydro told the Sun that much of the timber is second growth, it has smaller stems, and in the more northern areas, it is mostly hemlock and balsam, which have low market value. He says there is no market for pulp logs in the area; and buyers are looking for higher value sawlogs.
Clearing began in January for the line, and by October half the timber along the right-of-way had been cut, 290,000 m3. Only 24,400 m3 of that had been scaled for sale. The newspaper says the total volume of wood – 490,000 m3 – would be enough to fill 16,000 logging trucks. The clearing project is one of the province’s largest logging operations.
Critics have spoken out against the burning of such as large amount of timber.

Who is Canada's Head of State?

A while ago, Canada's Governor General, Michaelle Jean, caused a bit of a stir when she publicly said she was Canada's Head of State. The Prime Minister told her that she was not Canada's Head of State, Queen Elizabeth II is. Who is Canada's Head of State? According to the Government of Canada literature, it is Queen Elizabeth II.

The Crown
Canada is a constitutional monarchy. The Crown in Canada was first established by the kings of France in the sixteenth century. Organized as a royal province of France, both French and British kings and queens have reigned over Canada since 1534. Under Canada's sovereigns, the country has evolved from a French colony to an independent nation.
Canada’s Head of State
In today's constitutional monarchy, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is Queen of Canada and Canada's Head of State. She is the personal embodiment of the Crown in Canada. In Canada’s system of government, the power to govern is vested in the Crown but is entrusted to the government to exercise on behalf and in the interest of the people. The Crown reminds the government of the day that the source of the power to govern rests elsewhere and that it is only given to them for a limited duration.
The Governor General and Lieutenant Governors
The Governor General and the ten Lieutenant Governors represent the Crown in Canada and act on The Queen's behalf. The Governor General’s role and responsibilities consist mainly in carrying out many of the duties on behalf of The Queen. For example, he or she presides over the swearing-in of the Prime Minister, the Chief Justice of Canada and cabinet ministers. However, there are powers that can only be exercised by the Queen. The Lieutenant Governors of the provinces perform similar duties at the provincial level.
The Parliament of Canada
The Parliament of Canada consists of The Queen, the Senate and the House of Commons. In the provinces, legislatures consist of the Lieutenant Governor and the elected assembly. Her Majesty's representatives act on the advice of the Prime Minister or ministers responsible to the House of Commons or the provincial legislative assemblies.

Canada's Governor General may at times feel he or she is the Head of State; however, he or she in fact is not. Governor General Michaelle Jean only represents Queen Elizabeth II; Governor General Michaelle Jean is not Queen Elizabeth II.
